Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic-minded Chief Operating Officer (COO) for our business partner, a publishing company which is part of a group of companies that have been active in the field of education and technology in 3 countries for over 15 years. 

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the publishing house, ensuring efficiency and alignment with the company's strategic goals. This role involves managing teams, optimizing operational processes, and driving business growth. The COO will work closely with the CEO to implement the company’s vision and ensure sustainable success in the publishing industry.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the company, aligning processes with strategic goals and ensuring operational efficiency across all departments.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement business strategies that enhance growth and sustainability.
  • Performance Management: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure productivity and oversee performance improvements.
  • Risk Management: Develop and monitor comprehensive risk management strategies to ensure compliance and mitigate potential operational disruptions.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage and optimize resource allocation to maximize productivity and achieve financial objectives.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations and improve overall business processes.
  • Leadership Development: Mentor and develop senior leaders within the organisation to build a strong and effective management team.
  • Innovation and Technology: Encourage the adoption of innovative practices and advanced technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication and alignment with business goals.
  • Business Development & Partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with authors, literary agents, suppliers, and distribution partners; Negotiate contracts with vendors, printers, and other service providers to optimize cost and quality; Identify market trends and opportunities to expand the publishing house’s reach and impact.
  • External Representation & Industry Engagement: Represent the publishing house at book fairs, industry events, and conferences;  Strengthen the company’s brand presence through networking and strategic alliances; Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

 

Your Profile

  • Proven Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior operational leadership role within a fast-paced and dynamic industry.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Strategic Vision: Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing strategic plans that drive organisational success.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities, with a focus on data-driven results.
  • Leadership Qualities: Excellent leadership and team-building skills with a track record of creating high-performing teams.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Innovation Mindset: A proactive approach to embracing and fostering innovation and change within the organisation.
  • Problem-Solving: Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex challenges effectively.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial and business acumen, with experience in managing budgets and driving cost optimization.

This is a full-time role, based at their headquarters (in Oradea)  with the possibility of some travel as required.
