Job description

For our business partner, a leading global technology provider that offers complete Software Development, Web, Mobile Development, and IT Consulting, with highly diversified enterprise projects, we are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer (L2).

System Engineer L2 is the 2nd line of support for the company, with a 24/7 rotation of shifts. 

Tasks include installing, maintaining, upgrading, and continuously improving the business operating environment. They also maintain the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of the infrastructure. This includes monitoring the operating environments, responding to incidents and problems, and planning for growth.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Management and resolution of L2 incidents, interventions and follow-up on incidents, enhancement of the incident reports and knowledge base.
  • Monitoring and management of the alarms, the first level of intervention based on the instructions, checking the good function of the system for which you are responsible, and changes in the production environments
  • Assist in the management of a multi-farm server for the company
  • Client Relationship: communicate to the Client changes and incidents and provide a summary of service quality
  • Ensure Data Protection of servers are maintained according to SLAs
  • Configure Linux servers as required
  • Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external servers.
  • Performs server upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment.
  • Responsible for server systems design and engineering in support of new systems, services, and scalability.
  • Ensure all server services and support meet defined corporate SLAs.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience with some flavor of the Linux operating system (Red Hat is an advantage).
  • Aptitude to understand and use support tools like SolarWinds, Service Now, etc. as well as basic support processes like escalation procedures, on-call, etc.
  • Linux basic knowledge, using the command line for data file editing with vi, system parameters, and processes checks, file transfers between servers, SNMP monitoring, crontab, permissions, ports, and connectivity checks.
  • Understands bash and Windows batch scripting used to automatize different system tasks, and knows how to run scripts with various options.
  • Can diagnose CPU and memory issues with native OS commands and resolve any issues with little guidance.
  • Should be familiar with multiple troubleshooting commands like ps, vmstat, iostat, traceroute, etc.
  • Has a good understanding of storage management and LVM.
  • Has a good understanding of Yum and package/patch Experience with Satellite would be a major plus.
  • Should know how to open support cases with the necessary vendor and follow each case through to resolution.
  • Strong planning, project management, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support and execute projects in a distributed
  • Can author KB articles or other documentation for use by the entire team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills using the English language.
  • The team must ensure 24/7 support.
  • Familiarity with VMWare and Zerto is a major plus.
