The engineering teams are the force that builds, innovates, and sustains Riverbed’s products. The company currently has more than 300 engineers on four sites in the United States, Romania, Israel and India. The engineering headquarters in Romania was built in 2016 and there are now over 45 employees with the team still growing.

Your future colleagues work in multicultural teams and contribute to one of the main products in the Riverbed portfolio – Alluvio. The Romanian teams work on Alluvio AppResponse, Alluvio NetProfiler and Alluvio IQ – the company’s new cloud-native and SaaS-delivered unified observability service. Riverbed Technology Romania is also in the process of building a new team to work on Alluvio Aternity for Digital Experience Management.
Raluca Adamache - Technical Recruiter at Riverbed Technology Romania, told Undelucram.ro the story of the Company that illuminates the user experience and highlighted the benefits in store for every IT entusiast in search of a job where he could truly deliver excellence.
1. What are the principles that define your culture? How do they integrate into your daily activities?
The cross-cultural backgrounds and varied life experiences of our employees are a rich added value to us and are reflected in everything we do as a company. Having a global presence, our policies are framed to provide a welcoming and positive work environment to all of our employees.
We have a strong culture that helps us stay together and implement our strategy. We have defined 8 key tenets of culture that are incredibly important for us: Trust, Customer first, Innovation, Collaboration, Disrupt, Partnership, Execute, Talent and Community Responsibility.
Through all of these we value our people and customers, promoting transparency, commitment and understanding within our organization. We have a collective responsibility to support each other. Riverbed encourages appreciation - we have our “Riverbed Recognition” app, where colleagues express their support and gratitude, and our “open door” policy which gives any employee the chance to have his or her ideas heard.
Our company's cultural values guide us in everything we do. We run several events each quarter that support Diversity and Inclusion and giving back to the Community. 2. What keeps people connected to the Riverbed mission?

How does this translate into our activity? Our teams work together, sharing each day the same goal of providing the best industry-leading solutions.
Riverbed is the only company with the collective richness of telemetry from network to app to end user, and our engineers are constantly striving to face customer and market challenges and drive innovation. We believe in the constant improvement of our processes; we recognize success as well as challenges and we work towards finding solutions.
This environment, together with our shared core values is what keeps people connected. And of course, the people themselves. The solid relationships within our team are the key to our unity. Our way of working, our passion, the importance that we give to professional and personal growth, the collaboration amongst our employees.
3. What is for you the best indicator of people being satisfied at work?
At Riverbed, we put great emphasis on continuous feedback that goes both ways, from management to employee and from employee to management. Collaboration is one of Riverbed’s core values and is reflected in the way the teams are working and sharing feedback. Managers have regular 1:1 meetings with all their team members and they constantly check how people feel and integrate their feedback into the day-to-day activities.
We created Riverbed’s page on Undelucram.ro to encourage everyone (our employees or the candidates who took part in the recruitment process) to express their honest feedback and we are very happy to have received such positive scores.
4. What are the growth opportunities within your company?
Having the right mindset is an important aspect of growth. We are looking for people who have the potential to learn, to self-improve, to evolve professionally and we offer support in developing technical abilities. In addition to looking for the right technical skills, we also look for the right attitude in our candidates.
At Riverbed we are committed to helping our employees learn the skills they need to succeed in the roles of today and tomorrow. We offer learning programs for individual contributors and people managers; we support participation in conferences or courses that are tailored to the career path of each person.
Additionally, we have a complex set of technical skills within our teams in Romania and we support multiple projects. We offer our people the possibility to learn and explore different projects, to work with a versatile toolset and modern technologies and to develop horizontally between teams and projects.
5. Do you run internship programs? If so, what are the skills that you are looking for and for which roles?
Yes, we have a very successful internship program that has run from the beginning of our journey in Romania. We open a summer internship program each year, and selected people have the possibility to continue with a one-year program for working students, or to come aboard as junior engineers. Apart from the summer internship, we intend to open other internship roles that can start at any time, mostly with a one year duration.
The growth mindset stays at the core of skills that we are looking for when we select our interns. Currently, we run our internships in Cluj and the targeted roles are QA Engineers and Software Engineers built around a tech stack that contains Python, C++, Linux, Networking, manual testing and automation testing.

6. What career opportunities can one expect to find at Riverbed and how do you currently run interviews?
We have a lot of new investment in our teams in Romania, and several new open roles covering Backend Software Engineers (C++, C#, Java, Go, Python), QA Automation Engineers, Frontend/UI developers and Engineering Managers. We look for people with different seniorities, from junior- mid to senior and management, with a desire to learn and flexibility in exploring new solutions. We currently have a hybrid way of working, giving flexibility to employees in organizing their time spent in the office, but we also make sure that the teams get together and work on important projects and activities, interact and socialize.
Our interviews are predominantly run remotely on video as we adapt and value everyone’s schedule, but we try to organize one meeting at the office, whenever possible. We appreciate direct interaction, and we are happy to welcome people to our office with a relaxed and friendly introduction and a good cup of coffee.
In general, we have 3 steps in our recruitment process, though it can be slightly different for management roles. Throughout the interview process, we bring the candidates together with managers and people that they will be working with in the team, because we want to create full transparency and offer the candidates the opportunity to ask questions and have insight into our way of working.

We believe in transparency, and we set up a relationship based on confidence from the very first interaction.
